A Close Shave

Like a scene from a bad comedy, we nearly didn't make it to our next destination...

It started when we underestimated the sheer size of Berlin, and was compounded when we stopped for a sneaky breakfast on our way to the international bus terminal. We hurriedly caught the next train and had just realised the rapidly passing time vs. distance was not in our favour, when suddenly the train stopped... And started going back in the other direction! The language barrier became apparent as we had no idea what was happening but we luckily jumped off seconds before the doors closed. With only 10min until our bus departed, we bolted outside to a taxi rank and disturbed the driver from her leisurely newspaper reading.

The bus station was a 10 min drive away, but we chose the right cab - as soon as the driver heard our plight, she was determined to get us there in time (and then refused a tip!). We arrived and ran blindly towards a bus resembling ours... only to see the driver release the handbrake and the bus roll forward. With courage from nowhere, Sponge leapt in front of the bus (after confirming it was ours) and we managed to get onboard. With sheer luck and just a few seconds on our side, we were on our way to Bremen...
