With a slight lack of foresight and transportation planning, we found ourselves forfeiting a night in the St Moritz hostel and heading into Austria via one night in Munich (somehow the cheapest option).
We had two memorable encounters with the famed German city: #1 was the pizzeria next to our hotel. Here we experienced the most efficient service, delivered by just one waitress (in a see-through top) running the entire bar and dining area! And, we witnessed the most quintessential American tourists we have ever seen. Judging by their outfits, Mum, Dad and teenage son seemed to think it was sometime in the 90s - even down to the fact they all had the same white sneakers!
Memorable encounter #2 was of course the city itself. With a morning stroll to find breakfast, we walked (and walked and walked) and marvelled at the sheer scale of the buildings that surrounded us, and their very apparent history. We could easily have spent days exploring, if it weren't for our bus to Salzburg at midday...
We finally made it to our destination of Obertraun, and were rewarded with a view of the stunning sunset over the mountains from our balcony and a delicious Wiener Schnitzel!
