After discovering what 'cold' really meant, we ventured into Zurich (on our own) to try and find some appropriate winter apparel. We decided to take advantage of the renowned Swiss rail network, and we were not disappointed. It was luxurious and quiet, nothing like any train we had seen before... And then we realised we had accidentally boarded the first class carriage! Inevitably, the rest of our travel was not quite so comfortable but still very efficient and actually enjoyable.
Zurich itself was a beautiful city, a rich tapestry of history and old world charm. After a cappuccino in a tearoom with the elderly ladies of Zurich (from which we nearly didn't escape) we set about exploring/getting lost/circulating the old cobblestone streets, admiring the character and charm exuded by every facade.
